Govt push for skill devp for budding designers
Apparel, Made-Ups, Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC), under the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship has spearheaded the launch of Credo Center of Excellence in the city today.
Padma Shri Dr. A. Sakthivel was named Chairman of the Apparel, Made-Ups, and Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC) on Monday.
AMHSSC was launched in 2013 with the primary mandate of enhancing and building capacity in skill development. AMHSSC has been authorised by NSDC to assess the proficiency of trainees’ skills in the apparel sector, made-ups, and home furnishings for their respective subject areas.
Dr. A. Sakthive is also serving as the President of the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO), an apex body of all export promotion bodies in the country, and Honorary Chairman of the Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA).

He was also the former chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) and was in charge of the Southern Region.He was the first Chairman of the Apparel, Made-Ups, and Home Furnishings Council (AMHSSC). He has also been the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Branch of the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce.
The Apparel, Made-Ups, and Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC) has been the single largest sector skill council by securing maximum jobs for the youth of the country under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) scheme of MSDE.
Since its inception in December 2013, AMHSSC has created 45 industry qualification packs and certified nearly 12 lakh people in the apparel industry. One of the salient features of the AMH SC is designing the training programmes based on the industry demands of different segments and ensuring that all successful trainees are certified through an accredited assessment agency.
